3. Maintain a wet edge during application.
4. Avoid excessive spreading or repeatedly working over partially dried paint.
5. Allow the first coat to dry fully before recoating.
Second coat application
1. Confirm that the first coat is completely dry.
2. Remove any minor nibs, dust or imperfections.
3. Apply the second coat using the same dilution and application method.
4. Maintain uniform film build and application direction.
5. Inspect the completed wall for uniform colour, rich sheen and coverage.
Recommended exterior painting system
Jewell WaterTite Crack Filler (where required) → Jewell WaterTite Waterproof Wall Putty (where full-surface levelling is required) → Jewell Waterborne Exterior Primer → Jewell Helmet Flex-n-Shine
Crack treatment
Helmet Flex-n-Shine itself is stated to bridge hairline cracks up to 1 mm. Stable cracks requiring repair before coating should be treated with an appropriate Jewell crack-repair product within the approved exterior system.
1. Inspect the crack to confirm that it is non-structural and stable.
2. Remove loose material and dust.
3. Ensure the crack area is clean and dry.
4. Apply the suitable Jewell crack filler where required.
5. Level the repaired area with the surrounding surface.
6. Allow the repair to dry completely.
7. Lightly sand the repaired area where required and remove dust.
Structural, moving or recurring cracks require appropriate civil repair and should not be treated only with decorative coating or crack filler.
Waterproof wall putty application
For premium exterior levelling, Jewell WaterTite Waterproof Wall Putty may be used as part of the standard Jewell exterior system where required.
Surface Preparation
The plaster must be fully cured, stable and free from active dampness.
Lightly pre-wet bare cement plaster where required by the putty system.
Do not leave standing or running water on the surface.
Application
1. Apply the first thin coat using a putty knife or steel trowel.
2. Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 4-6 hours.
3. Apply the second coat.
4. Keep the combined thickness within approximately 1.5 mm.
5. Allow the completed putty surface to dry thoroughly.
6. Lightly sand using 320-number or finer sandpaper.
7. Remove all sanding dust before primer application.
Exterior primer application
Apply Jewell Waterborne Exterior Primer over the completely dry, smooth and dust-free surface.
1. Stir the primer thoroughly before use.
2. Dilute only as specified on the primer product pack or latest approved technical data.
3. Apply one continuous and uniform coat using a brush, roller or spray.
4. Ensure complete coverage of corners, repairs and difficult areas.
5. Avoid excessive dilution and missed patches.
6. Allow the primer to dry completely before topcoat application.
7. Use an additional primer coat only where the surface remains excessively porous or uneven in absorption.
The Helmet Flex-n-Shine specifically recommends 1-2 coats of Jewell Waterborne Exterior Primer on chalky surfaces before painting.
Preparation of helmet flex-n-shine
1. Verify product name, shade/base, batch and pack before use.
2. Stir the paint thoroughly before application.
3. Where multiple containers are used on one continuous wall, intermix the required quantity to minimise shade or sheen variation.
4. Dilute with up to 40% clean water.
5. Maintain the same dilution ratio across the same continuous wall.
6. Do not over-dilute.

Helmet Flex-n-Shine is an exterior decorative coating and should not be treated as a standalone waterproofing membrane for roofs, terraces, floors or other horizontal areas exposed to standing water.
Pre-application site inspection
Inspect for active water leakage, seepage or dampness.
Check for efflorescence or salt deposits.
Inspect cracks, hollow plaster, loose plaster and damaged areas.
Check for algae, fungus and biological growth.
Inspect old coatings for peeling, chalking, flaking or poor adhesion.
Identify water-entry points around windows, joints, projections and penetrations.
All sources of water ingress should be rectified before painting. Do not apply over active seepage or structurally unstable surfaces.
New surface requirements
Allow freshly plastered surfaces to cure completely.
Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust, grease and loose particles.
Remove construction residues and weak surface material.
Confirm that the substrate is sound and dry before further treatment.
Previously painted surfaces
Remove loose paint by scraping or wire brushing.
Clean thoroughly to remove dust or chalking.
Where the old coating is sound, prepare the surface to ensure good adhesion.
Allow cleaned surfaces to dry completely before further application.
Weather conditions for application
Apply only on a dry surface.
Avoid application on wet or rain-affected walls.
Do not apply where weather conditions are likely to interfere with drying.
Allow additional drying time during cool or humid conditions.
Technical application summary
Actual coverage and drying time may vary depending on surface condition, porosity, application method and site conditions.
Important application precautions
Do not apply over active seepage or dampness.
Do not paint over unresolved structural cracks.

3. Remove loose, flaking and poorly adhered paint.
4. Clean dust, chalking and contaminants.
5. Treat biological growth where present.
6. Repair cracks and damaged plaster using the appropriate Jewell system.
7. Apply putty only on repaired or uneven areas unless full levelling is required.
8. Sand repaired areas and remove dust.
9. Apply Jewell Waterborne Exterior Primer, especially on chalky, bare, repaired or porous surfaces.
10. Allow the primer to dry completely.
11. Apply 2 coats of Helmet Flex-n-Shine.
Horizontal and water-collecting areas
Helmet Flex-n-Shine is intended for exterior wall protection and should not be used as the sole waterproofing treatment on roofs, terraces, floors or stagnant-water surfaces.
Inspect parapet tops, chajjas, ledges, channels and terrace-wall junctions for water accumulation.
Correct drainage and slope defects before decorative painting.
Use an appropriate Jewell WaterTite waterproofing system where horizontal waterproofing is required.
Post-application care and maintenance
Allow 7 days for full cure.
Clean tools with soap and water after use.
Wipe surfaces with a soft cloth and mild detergent.
