Surface cleaning and preparation
All surfaces must be sound, dry and clean.
Remove oil, grease, dirt, mildew, form-release agents, curing compounds, loose paint and foreign substances.
Repair cracks and holes before priming.
Scuff, sand or de-gloss smooth or glossy surfaces where required.
Remove all preparation dust before proceeding.
New surface preparation
Roughen slick poured or precast concrete and remove sealers by chemical cleaning or abrasive methods where required.
Rinse thoroughly and allow the surface to dry.
Prime concrete and plaster with Jewell Exterior Primer.
For drywall, remove sanding dust and apply Jewell Exterior Primer.
For wood, sand smooth, remove dust and apply primer.
Mildew treatment
1. Scrub affected areas with a mixture of 1 litre household bleach in 3-4 litres warm water.
2. Rinse the surface and allow it to dry.
3. Do not add detergent or ammonia to the bleach/water solution.
Crack treatment
For non-structural plaster cracks, Jewell WaterTite Crack Filler may be used within the approved Jewell exterior system.
1. Open the crack slightly where required to form a clean groove.
2. Remove loose particles and dust.
3. Ensure the groove is clean and dry.
4. Press the crack filler firmly into the crack.
5. Level the repaired area with the surrounding surface.
6. Allow the repair to dry completely.
7. Lightly sand to obtain a uniform surface.
Structural, moving, recurring or major masonry cracks require appropriate civil repair and should not be treated only with decorative crack filler.
Waterproof wall putty application
For premium exterior levelling, Jewell WaterTite Waterproof Wall Putty may be used where required as part of the standard Jewell exterior system.
Surface Preparation
The plaster must be fully cured, stable and free from active dampness.
Lightly pre-wet bare cement plaster where required by the putty system.
The surface should be evenly moist but must not have standing water.
Mixing
Mix with clean potable water according to the product pack or latest approved technical data.
Use a mechanical mixer to prepare a smooth and lump-free paste.
Prepare only as much material as can be used within its working time.
Do not add water after the material has started setting.
Application
1. Apply the first thin coat using a putty knife or steel trowel.
2. Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 4-6 hours.
3. Apply the second coat.
4. Keep the combined thickness within approximately 1.5 mm.
5. Allow the putty to dry thoroughly.
6. Lightly sand using 320-number or finer abrasive.
7. Remove all sanding dust before primer application.
Exterior primer application
Apply Jewell Exterior Primer over the completely dry, smooth and dust-free prepared surface.
1. Stir the primer thoroughly before use.
2. Dilute only as specified on the primer product pack or latest approved technical data.
3. Apply one uniform coat using a brush, roller or spray.
4. Ensure complete coverage of corners, repairs and difficult areas.
5. Avoid excessive dilution and missed patches.
6. Allow the primer to dry completely before topcoat application.
7. Apply an additional primer coat only where surface absorption or porosity requires it.
Best house pearl glo material preparation

Use an appropriate Jewell WaterTite waterproofing system on horizontal or continuously wet surfaces where required.
Proceed with the decorative system only after the substrate is properly treated and dry.
