Application & care

First coat application

1. Complete cutting-in around corners, edges, windows, doors and architectural details using a brush.

2. Apply the first coat uniformly using a good-quality exterior roller, brush or spray.

3. Paint in manageable sections.

4. Maintain a wet edge to avoid lap marks.

5. Do not excessively spread the material.

6. Allow the first coat to dry fully before recoating.

Second coat application

1. Confirm that the first coat is completely dry.

2. Remove any minor surface nibs, dust or imperfections.

3. Apply the second coat using the same dilution and application method.

4. Maintain uniform film build and application direction.

5. Inspect the completed wall for uniform shade, gloss and coverage.

The label recommends two or more coats as desired. Additional coats may be required for deep colours, major colour changes or difficult substrates.

Recommended exterior painting system

Jewell WaterTite Crack Filler (where required) → Jewell WaterTite Waterproof Wall Putty (where full-surface levelling is required) → Jewell Exterior Primer → Jewell Best House Dazzle Glo

Surface cleaning and preparation

All surfaces must be sound, dry and clean.

Remove oil, grease, dirt, mildew, curing compounds, form-release agents and other foreign substances.

Remove loose and flaking paint.

Scuff, sand or de-gloss smooth and glossy surfaces.

Repair imperfections, cracks and holes before priming.

Countersink nailheads, fill and sand smooth, and caulk openings where required.

Treatment of mildew, fungus and algae

1. Remove loose biological growth from the surface.

2. Where mildew is present, scrub with a mixture of 1 litre household bleach in 3-4 litres of warm water as specified on the label.

3. Rinse and allow the surface to dry.

4. Do not add detergent or ammonia to the bleach/water solution.

5. For broader Jewell system treatment, use an appropriate Jewell WaterTite Bio-Wash Fungicidal Cleaner where specified.

Do not apply primer or topcoat directly over active fungal, algal or mould growth.

Crack treatment

Use Jewell WaterTite Crack Filler for stable, non-structural plaster cracks where appropriate within the approved Jewell exterior system.

1. Open the crack slightly to form a clean groove where required.

2. Remove loose plaster, dust and contaminants.

3. Ensure the crack is clean and dry.

4. Press the crack filler firmly into the groove using a putty knife, spatula or trowel.

5. Avoid leaving cavities or air pockets.

6. Level the repaired area with the surrounding surface.

7. Allow the repair to dry fully.

8. Lightly sand the repaired area after drying.

Structural, movement or recurring cracks, deep masonry cracks and hollow plaster require appropriate civil repair and should not be treated only with decorative crack filler.

Waterproof wall putty application

For premium exterior levelling, Jewell WaterTite Waterproof Wall Putty may be used where required as part of the Jewell exterior system.

Surface Preparation

The plaster must be fully cured, stable and free from active dampness.

Lightly pre-wet bare cement plaster where required by the putty system.

The surface should be evenly moist but must not have standing or running water.

Mixing

Mix the putty with clean potable water in the ratio specified on the product pack or approved technical data.

Use a mechanical mixer to prepare a smooth, uniform and lump-free paste.

Prepare only as much material as can be used within its specified working time.

Do not add water after the putty has begun setting.

Application

1. Apply the first thin coat using a putty knife or steel trowel.

2. Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 4-6 hours.

3. Apply the second coat.

4. Keep the combined thickness of both coats within approximately 1.5 mm.

5. Allow the completed putty surface to dry thoroughly.

6. Lightly sand using 320-number or finer sandpaper.

7. Remove all sanding dust before applying primer.

Exterior primer application

Apply Jewell Exterior Primer over the completely dry, smooth and dust-free surface.

1. Stir the primer thoroughly before use.

2. Dilute only as specified on the primer product pack or latest approved technical data.

3. Apply one continuous and uniform coat using a brush, roller or spray.

4. Ensure complete coverage of corners, repairs and difficult areas.

5. Avoid excessive dilution and missed patches.

6. Allow the primer to dry completely before topcoat application.

7. Apply a second primer coat only where the substrate remains excessively porous or uneven in absorption.

For major colour changes or deep shades, the Best House Dazzle Glo label recommends tinting the primer approximately to the finish-coat colour.

Weather conditions for topcoat application

Apply only when temperature is above 10°C and below 35°C.

Always paint on a dry surface.

Do not paint in direct sunlight.

Do not apply when the surface is wet from rain, dew or condensation.

Avoid application where weather conditions may prevent adequate drying.

Low temperature, high humidity, thick films or poor ventilation may prolong drying time.

Preparation of best house dazzle glo

1. Verify product name, shade/base and batch before use.

2. Stir the paint thoroughly until completely uniform.

3. Intermix containers of the same product where required to maintain colour and sheen uniformity.

4. For brush or roller, dilute with no more than 30-40% water.

5. For spray, dilute with no more than 40-50% water.

6. Do not over-dilute.

7. Use the same dilution ratio across the same continuous wall.

Drying and recoating

Low temperature, high humidity, thick films or poor ventilation may increase drying time.
